Synopsis (via goodreads)
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all.

Monisah’s thoughts:

I went into To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before thinking it was going to be a story about love letters and romance. Although it was a story about love letters, it was so much more than a love story. I was surprised to find that family was a BIG theme in the book. I loved the bond that the Song sisters held, and the friendship they had between them. Laura Jean’s mum passed away, leaving Margot (Laura’s older sister) to be the mother figure of the house. However, Margot leaves for college in Scotland, so Laura Jean has to take up the role. I loved reading about her dealing with the change. Laura Jean was a successful, relatable character which made the book so much easier to read. I also have to applaud Han for her character progression. I thought all the characters grew throughout the book, especially Peter who turned out to be a decent human being!

However, the ending of the book came as a bit of a surprise because it ended in the middle of nowhere! I guess that’s what the next book is for!

Overall, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before was a fast and easy read. It was the perfect laid-back book to kick off the summer season. (Oh, and it looks beautiful sat on my shelf!)

Rating: 4.5/5

Stay beautiful,
Monisah xo

  1. I read this duology a few weeks ago and really liked it! I definitely agree that the covers are totally gorgeous. I really like the second book (maybe even better than the first) and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it! Great review 🙂

  2. I’m so happy you love this book!!!!!!!!! It’s definitely my fav contemporary!! I love how you said “the book ended in the middle of nowhere” hahahahah I remember after Miedjel read this book she attacked me and said, “Where’s the rest of the book?” Lol but seriously even after I read it, I had a sort of panic attack. It was a very cruel way to end a book! Team Josh or Team Peter? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the second book! 😀

      • IT’S THE BEST THING EVER FINDING SOMEONE TO FANGIRL OVER A BOOK YOU LOVE!!!! ❤ I'm Team Peter all the way (though Josh did have his moments) but I was just so frustrated with him when he only admitted his feelings once Lara Jean was with another guy! And I actually liked him with Margot!!!! I LOVED THE SECOND BOOK. John Ambrose McClaren gave Peter a run for his money. Seriously, I felt like if I didn't meet Peter first I would be his. John is so swoon worthy. HE IS SO PERFECT. The beginning of the book was so perfect but I got so freaking annoyed with Peter!!! HE WOULDN'T STOP IT WITH GEN! *argh* Lara Jean is your gf!!! It was very frustrating. Also, when he asked the necklace back. I wanted to punch his face. But never the less, I still love him!!! (I'm sorry once this mouth fangirls. IT WILL NOT STOP! lol) How about you? What did you think? 🙂
